Curate the Perfect Instagram feed
GUEST POST by Lisa Macale from Socialised
10 Key Tips to help you curate a feed that resonates with your audience.
Questions to consider before you get started:
What is your colour theme? Are your brand colours represented?
What ties your posts together?
Is there variety in the images shared?
Does your feed feel on brand and cohesive?
Don’t post images too similar side by side. Keep a good variety of images in your feed. If you are using an image of a person, have the next photo be of your product or service offering. Consider the placement of all your images across the feed so when people scroll through your content it looks cohesive.
It doesn't need to be perfect. While this may seem to go against what we have just told you in the previous step, remember that your content doesn’t need to be absolutely perfect. You just want to ensure that your content is relatable to your brand, of reasonable quality and appeals to your target audience. It is not always going to be possible to have every single image in your feed taken by a professional photographer.
Show people! Images with people typically perform best so remember this when you’re curating your Instagram feed.
Create your key categories of content. Start to think about your ‘content pillars’. These are the key groups of content that you have available to share and which will resonate with your audience.
Consider the colour and style of images you are using; do they fit with your branding?
Use the same preset or filter across your images to keep the colour tones consistent.
Avoid over-using text heavy images. When using graphics or text heavy images, consider keeping them in the same place in your feed. For example, if someone was to scroll down your feed it might look best to keep your text heavy images to every ninth image. The algorithm also doesn’t tend to favour text heavy images so try to avoid using too many of these.
Size; it’s best to keep your images to Instagram standard square size (1080x1080 pixels)
Use GIF’s and videos. Want to grab your audience's attention? Give them something they won't just scroll past. GIF’s and videos will typically perform better than a standard image on your feed.
Reposting Etiquette. When reposting images from your customers or other accounts, always make sure you have permission to do so. If in doubt stick with your own content or stock images.
