Freelancer or Business owner...?
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED AS A CREATIVE THAT TITLING YOURSELF AS A ‘FREELANCER’ COULD BE CREATING BLOCKS IN YOUR BUSINESS AND YOUR CLIENTS ATITUDE?
This is a purely personal opinion from what I see with clients in their strategy sessions - they create limitations on themselves and kneel to every client demand and accept delayed payments because they are dealing with ‘big brands’.
A freelancer, in my opinion, is someone who does their work for a monetary conversion without growth factored in - side hustle if you will and taking any project that comes along. With taking on any project/client they also kneel to their demands and their vision of design, copy, social .. you get my drift.
An entrepreneur/business owner is someone who reinvests that money conversion in some capacity to grow their business, to upskill and build relationships.
Business owners work towards the long term, have a clear vision and drive to communicate their value constantly and consistently to the wider world.
If you are happy to be a freelancer then that’s epic and keep doing your thing...BUT if you want to own a business then don’t underestimate yourself or think small if you want to drive change through your ‘work’.
It’s important to note that as a business owner you are in control of your business, clients and projects - you can dictate your terms more easily, stick to your own system of invoicing and timelines and have creative governance over your work.
Change your mindset. Change your thoughts around your value. Reinvest. Be an entrepreneur. You got this!
